Compound Sentence: Translation in English Grammar
A compound sentence वह वाक्य है जिसमें दो या दो से अधिक स्वतंत्र clauses (पूरा-पूरा अर्थ देने वाले वाक्य) को coordinating conjunctions जैसे and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor की मदद से जोड़ा जाता है। Compound sentence में प्रत्येक clause अपना अलग-अलग complete meaning रखता है, लेकिन conjunction के माध्यम से दोनों के बीच संबंध (जैसे जोड़, विरोध, विकल्प, परिणाम आदि) स्थापित किया जाता है।
उदाहरण- “I called you, but you didn’t answer.” यहाँ दोनों clauses अपने-आप में पूरे वाक्य हैं, और but उन्हें एक compound sentence बनाता है। इसी प्रकार- “He cooked the food, and I served it.” Compound sentences लंबे विचारों को जोड़ने में मदद करते हैं और वाक्य को अधिक स्पष्ट व प्रभावी बनाते हैं।
नोट-
- Compound Sentence में एक Principal Clause होती है और कम से कम एक Co-ordinate Clause होती है। यह Co-ordinate Clause-Principal Clause की ही समानपदीय होनी चाहिए।
- Compound Sentence (संयुक्त वाक्य) Co-ordinating Conjunction-And, But, For, Or, Nor, Still, Otherwise, Else, Either……or, Neither……..nor, Both….and, Not only…… but also आदि के प्रयोग से बनती है।
अनुवाद के नियम-
Either…..or, Neither…….nor, Not only……but also, Otherwise, As well as, Still के प्रयोग से Compound Sentence बनते हैं क्योंकि ये Co-ordinating Conjunctions है।
Rule 1. And और But का प्रयोग
1. ईश्वर ने गांव बनाये और मनुष्य ने नगर बनाये।
God made the country and man made the town.
2. वह आया था और मैं चला गया।
He came and I went.
3. यह पुस्तक लो और वह पैन दो।
Take this book and give that pen.
Rule 2. But, Still, Otherwise और Else का प्रयोग
4. रमेश कुशाग्र-बुद्धि है किन्तु वह परिश्रमी नहीं है।
Ramesh is intelligent but he is not diligent.
5. मैं क्रोधित था, फिर भी मैं शांत रहा।
I was angry, still I kept quite.
6. जल्दी करो अन्यथा तुम्हें देर हो जायेगी।
Be quick otherwise you will be late. (Else = otherwise)
OR Be quick else you will be late. (Otherwise = else)
Rule 3. Either……..or का प्रयोग:
Either के साथ or का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
7. या तो वह पागल है या पागल होने का पाखंड करता है।
Either he is mad or he feigns madness.
8. या तो मेरे साथ आओ या फिर मुझसे स्टेशन पर मिलो।
Either come with me or meet me at the station…
9. या तो बस द्वारा जाओ या फिर कार्यक्रम को रद्द करो।
Either go by bus or cancel the programme.
Rule 4. As well as का प्रयोग
As well वाले वाक्यों में क्रिया As well as से पूर्व प्रयुक्त Subject के अनुसार आती है। जैसे-
10. राम को कॉफी पसन्द है और उसके भाई को भी। या, राम और उसके भाई को कॉफी पसन्द है।
Rama as well as his brother likes coffee.
11. राम को कॉफी पसन्द है और उसके भाइयों को भी। या, राम और उसके भाइयों को कॉफी पसन्द है।
Rama as well as his brothers likes coffee.
11. वह अपराधी है और मैं भी। (वह और मैं दोनों अपराधी हैं।)
He as well as I is guilty.
Rule 5. Otherwise या Else का प्रयोग
‘अन्यथा’ के लिए Otherwise या Else का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
12. जल्दी करो अन्यथा तुम्हें देर हो जायेगी।
Be quick otherwise you will be late. (Else = otherwise)
OR Be quick else you will be late. (Otherwise = else)
Rule 6. Still, Yet या Nevertheless का प्रयोग
‘फिर भी’ के लिए Still, Yet या Nevertheless का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
13. मैं क्रोधित था, फिर भी मैं शांत रहा।
I was angry, still I kept quite.
Rule 7. Neither………..nor का प्रयोग
Neither के साथ nor का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
14. न तो वह आया और न उसने कोई पत्र ही भेजा।
He neither came nor sent any letter.
15. स्पीकर न तो नियमों से ऊपर है और न भवन (विधानसभा) से।
The speaker is neither above the rules nor above the house.
16. न तो उसने माल वापिस किया और न बिल चुकाया।
He neither returned the goods nor paid the bill.
17. न तो तुम्हारा उत्तर ठीक है और न मेरा ही।
Your answer is not right, neither is mine. OR Neither your answer is right nor mine is right.
18. न तो तुम उत्तरदायी हो और न वह।
Neither you nor he is to blame. OR He is not to blame nor are you.
19. न तो तुम और न मैं ही उसका मुकाबला (प्रतिस्पर्धा) कर सकते हैं।
Neither you nor I can compete with him.
20. न हम उधार लेते हैं और न उधार देते हैं।
We neither borrow nor lend. OR Neither we borrow nor do we lend.
21. न तो मैं धूम्रपान करता हूँ और न शराब पीता हूँ।
I neither smoke nor drink.
22. वह बूढ़ी स्त्री न तो पढ़ सकती थी और न लिख ही सकती थी।
That old woman could neither read nor write.
Rule 8. Not only…….but also का प्रयोग
Not only के साथ But also का प्रयोग किया जाता है। जैसे-
23. उसकी केवल टिकट ही नहीं खोई बल्कि उसका सामान भी खो गया।
She lost not only her ticket but also her luggage.
24. वह केवल मूर्ख ही नहीं बल्कि हठी (जिद्दी) भी है।
He is not only foolish, but also obstinate.
OR Not only is he foolish, but also obstinate.
25. वह केवल अपनी बुद्धि के लिए ही नहीं बल्कि अपनी ईमानदारी के लिए भी जाना जाता
He is known not only for his wisdom, but also for his honesty.
26. यह केवल कठोर ही नहीं था बल्कि असत्य भी था।
It was not only unkind, but also untrue.
27. कोट केवल मुलायम ही नहीं था बल्कि गर्म भी था।
Not only was the coat soft, but it was also warm.
Rule 9. For, So, Therefore और Hence का प्रयोग
‘अतः’ के लिए So, Therefore या Hence का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
28. उसने कठिन परिश्रम किया, अतः वह पास हो गया।
He worked hard, so he passed.
29. उसने परीक्षा में नकल की, अतः उसे दण्डित किया गया।
He copied in the examination, therefore he was punished.
30. वह अनुपस्थित था अतः उस पर जुर्माना कर दिया गया।
He was absent, hence he was fined.
Rule 10. For का प्रयोग
‘क्योंकि’ के लिए For का प्रयोग होता है। जैसे-
31. मुझे दिखाई नहीं पड़ता क्योंकि बहुत अंधकार है।
I cannot see, for it is very dark.
