Use of “Be” Forms (Is, Am, Are, Was, Were, Will be, Shall be)

“To Be” verb अंग्रेज़ी की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और सामान्य verb में से एक है। इसका प्रयोग किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु की स्थिति (state), पहचान (identity), गुण (condition) या अस्तित्व (existence) बताने के लिए किया जाता है।

• Present Tense में – I के साथ am, he, she, it या किसी singular noun के साथ is, और you, we, they या plural nouns के साथ are का प्रयोग होता है।
• Past Tense में – I, he, she, it के साथ was, और you, we, they के साथ were प्रयोग किया जाता है।
• Future Tense में – सभी subjects के साथ will be या shall be का प्रयोग होता है।
• Negative वाक्य बनाने के लिए is/am/are/was/were के बाद not लगाया जाता है, जैसे He is not lazy.
• Interrogative वाक्य बनाने के लिए इन्हें वाक्य की शुरुआत में लाया जाता है, जैसे Is he lazy?

अतः “To Be” का सही प्रयोग सीखना अंग्रेज़ी में सही और स्पष्ट वाक्य बनाने के लिए बहुत आवश्यक है।

Use of Is, Am, Are, Was, Were, Will be, Shall be:

10. ये हमारे लिए बहुत उपयोगी होंगे।	These will be very useful for us.
11. यह एक सेब है।	This is an apple.
12. क्या वे पक्षी हैं?	Are those birds?
13. यह एक सेब नहीं था।	This was not a apple.

(A) Affirmative (Positive) Sentences

Present Tense :

1. तुमं बुद्धिमान हो।
   You are wise.
2. मैं एक विद्यार्थी हैं।
   I am a student.
3. वे बहुत मोटे हैं।
   They are very fat.
4. हरी अमीर है।
   Hari is rich.
5. शीला निर्धन है।
   Shila is poor.
6. पिताजी साहसी हैं।
   Father is courageous.

Past Tense:

1. हम मीटिंग में थे।
   We were in the meeting.
2. अकबर अच्छा राजा था।
   Akbar was a good king.
3. पंडित नेहरू महान देशभक्त थे।
   Pandit Nehru was a great patriot.
4. राम के भाई क्रोधित थे।
   Rama’s brothers were angry.
5. पिताजी कल नाराज थे।
   Father was angry yesterday.
6. मैं प्रसन्न था।
   I was happy.
7. तुम दुःखी थे।
   You were sad.

Future Tense :

1. वह आज यहाँ होगा।
   He will be here today.
2. मुझे देर हो जायेगी।
   I shall be late.
3. मीटिंग पाँच बजे समाप्त होगी।
   The meeting will be over at five.
4. वे मेरे साथ होंगे।
   They will be with me.
5. हम वहाँ उपस्थित होंगे।
   We shall be present there.

अनुवाद के नियम

• अंग्रेजी भाषा में तीन Tense- (i) Present Tense (वर्तमान काल), (ii) Past Tense (भूतकाल) और (iii) Future Tense (भविष्य काल) होते हैं।
• Is, Am, Are, Was, Were, Will be, Shall Be; Be क्रिया के विभिन्न रूप हैं।

Present Tense:

• He, She, It तथा एकवचन की संज्ञाओं के साथ Is का प्रयोग होता है।

नोट– माताजी, पिताजी, मास्टर साहब, प्रधानाचार्य, चाचा जी, दादा जी, महात्मा गांधी, राणा प्रताप, मुहम्मद साहब, ईसा मसीह, स्वामी दयानन्द आदि महापुरुषों के साथ अंग्रेजी में Is का ही प्रयोग होता है जबकि हिन्दी भाषा में सम्मानित व्यक्तियों के लिए ‘हैं’ का प्रयोग होता है।

• I के साथ ‘हूँ’ के लिए Am का प्रयोग होता है।
• You, They, We तथा बहुवचन की संज्ञाओं (Plural Nouns) के साथ Are का प्रयोग होता है।

Past Tense:

• I, He, She, It तथा एकवचन की संज्ञाओं (Singular Nouns) के साथ Was का प्रयोग होता है। (उदाहरण 8, 9, 11, 12)
• We, You, They तथा बहुवचन की संज्ञाओं (Plural Nouns) के साथ Were का प्रयोग होता है (उदाहरण 7, 10, 13)

विशेष-Past Tense में सम्मानित व्यक्तियों के लिए Was का प्रयोग होता है यद्यपि हिन्दी भाषा में इनके लिए ‘थे’ का प्रयोग होता है।

Future Tense:

• I, We के साथ Shall be का प्रयोग होता है।
• I. We को छोड़कर Future Tense में अन्य सब कर्ताओं Subjects के साथ Will be का प्रयो होता है।

(B) Negative Sentences

Present Tense:

1. वह धनी नहीं है।
   He is not rich.
2. मैं आलसी नहीं हैं।
   I am not lazy.
3. तुम मेरे मित्र नहीं हो।
   You are not my friend.
4. कुछ विद्यार्थी कक्षा में नहीं हैं।
   Some students are not in the class.
5. यह भिखारी भूखा नहीं है।
   This beggar is not hungry.

Past Tense:

1. राम शहर में नहीं था।
   Rama was not in the city.
2. तुम्हारे भाई उपस्थित नहीं थे।
   Your brothers were not present.
3. गौतम बुद्ध निर्दयी नहीं थे।
   Gautam Buddha was not cruel.
4. आम खट्टा नहीं था।
   The mango was not sour.
5. वे क्रोधित नहीं थे।
   They were not angry.

Future Tense:

1. मैं वहाँ नहीं हूँगा।
   I shall not be there.
2. तुम कक्षा में नहीं होगे।
   You will not be in the class.
3. चपरासी गेट पर नहीं होगा।
   The peon will not be at the gate.
4. माताजी मन्दिर में नहीं होगी।
   Mother will not be in the temple.
5. शेर पिंजड़े में नहीं होगा।
   The lion will not be in the cage.

अनुवाद के नियम-

• Is, Am, Are, Was, किया जाता है। Were, Will तथा Shall के बाद ‘नहीं’ के लिए Not का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
• Future Tense में Not-Will, Shall के बाद किन्तु Be से पहले लिखा जाता है।

अनुवाद के नियम-

• Is, Am, Are, Was, Were, Will और Shall कर्ता के अनुसार कर्ता (Subject) से पहले लिखे जाते हैं।
• अगर ऐसा वाक्य Negative भी है तो ‘नहीं’ के लिए Not का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
• Not को कर्ता के बाद तथा पूरक (Complement) से पहले लिखते हैं।

संकेत-(i) Is, Am, Are, Was, Were का प्रयोग Main Verb की तरह हुआ है।

• Will be, Shall be में Will, Shall सहायक क्रिया हैं और Be मुख्य क्रिया है।

“To Be” verb का अर्थ होता है “होना”। इसका प्रयोग किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु की स्थिति, पहचान या गुण बताने के लिए किया जाता है।
