Education should be inclusive, accessible, and empowering. Recognizing this, the Government of India launched the PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (PM YASASVI), also referred to as PM YASASVI—OBC/EBC/DNT scheme. Administered by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, its purpose is to offer meaningful financial support to meritorious students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), and De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT)—ensuring their educational journey is unhindered by economic constraints.

1. What Is PM YASASVI?

The PM YASASVI scheme consolidates previously fragmented scholarships—like pre-matric, post-matric, top-class school, top-class college, and hostel infrastructure—into one comprehensive program. It extends support from Class 9 all the way through post-secondary level, including higher education.

2. Who Is Eligible?

Eligible applicants must:

  • For Classes 11 & 12: Scholarship of up to ₹1,25,000 per annum
  • Additional benefits include coverage of tuition fees, hostel accommodation, incidentals, and infrastructure support.

4. Scheme Duration & Coverage

The scheme is in effect from 2021–22 to 2025–26, giving students a multi-year support framework covering both school and college-level pursuits.

5. Application Process & Disbursement

  • Applications are submitted via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)
  • Required documents include: income certificate, caste (OBC/EBC/DNT) certificate, Aadhaar, academic mark sheets, bank account details, and domicile or disability certificates where applicable
  • Funds are sent directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the student’s bank account, ensuring transparent and timely delivery.

6. Selection & Reservation

  • Students are selected primarily based on merit and eligibility criteria
  • 30% of scholarships are specifically reserved for female students, encouraging gender inclusivity.

7. Objectives & Impact

The PM YASASVI scheme is a transformative measure in India’s educational policy:

  • It increases access to quality education for historically marginalized groups
